GF Machining Solutions Customer Services’ virtual reality experience at EMO Hannover 2017 illustrates the benefits of certified wire for WEDM

21-sep-2017 15:34

Visitors to GF Machining Solutions’ EMO Hannover 2017 booth will experience—in a state-of-the-art, virtually reality (VR) contest—the cost efficiency, speed, productivity and quality delivered by the GF Division’s selection of wire-cutting electrical discharge machining (WEDM) wires, including the new SMART wire.

The Virtual Wire Experience (VWE) was developed especially for the Customer Services area of GF Machining Solutions’ booth (Hall 27, Stand B24) at EMO Hannover 2017, September 18–23, in Hannover, Germany. Wearing a virtual reality headset in order to experience full immersion in the VR setting, each VWE player will experience GF Machining Solutions’ wide array of wires to advance cost efficiency, speed, productivity and quality. At the end of each of the six days of EMO, the player with the day’s top score will receive a personally inscribed cup trophy. From the six winners, one grand prize will be awarded: a Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone with touch display with a Samsung Gear VR headset with controller.

The VWE is designed to allow players to experience the benefits of GF Machining Solutions’ certified wires—including AC CUT AH/G, AC CUT VS 900+, AC CUT VH and AC Brass 900—and how they can add new intelligence to their wire EDM processes by using Customer Services’ SMART wire.

The SMART wire edge

Embedded with radio frequency identification (RFID) chips, SMART wire represents a smart, connected solution to ensure consistent quality, process continuity, stock and process traceability, process optimization and part cost calculation while minimizing human errors.

With SMART Wire, manufacturers gain access to the wire characteristics they need to support their wire selection, machining strategy, part cost calculations, and critical certifications such as Nadcap. SMART wire’s RFID chip records a host of wire characteristics, including wire material, diameter, tensile strength, initial spool weight and remaining wire length, and validity date. At the same time, SMART wire users can exploit new traceability horizons and better track their quality because the wire collects the wire product number, purchase order reference, production data, manufacturing date and expiration date.
