A complete range of connecting systems for intelligent production will inspire manufacturers to “Envision Your Future” when GF Machining Solutions opens its stand at EMO 2017, September 18–23, in Hannover, Germany.

With a strong focus on current manufacturing trends including Industry 4.0, energy efficiency and Additive Manufacturing, GF Machining Solutions’ Hannover 2017 presence (Hall 27, Stand B24) will draw on a legacy of technical innovation to showcase 945 square meters of complete solutions—including intelligent ecosystems—spanning the full life cycles of this GF Division’s products for key industrial segments such as automotive, aerospace, medical, information and communications technology (ICT) as well as electronic components. From Milling, Automation and EDM (wire-cutting and die-sinking electrical discharge machining) technologies to Laser and Additive Manufacturing, visitors will experience the pioneering spirit that lies at the core of GF Machining Solutions.

World premiere / 2017 novelties

More specifically, visitors will experience a world premiere Milling breakthrough: GF Machining Solutions’ new Mikron MILL P 500 U high-performance Milling solution. With its powerful and dynamic material removal capabilities and high stiffness, this solution takes precision and surface finish on parts to a new level. The Mikron MILL P 500 U enables continuous machining of complex forms and tough materials while shortening process time. Its advanced thermal stability ensures reliable precision over long machining periods. Furthermore, it delivers exceptional competitiveness by integrating smart Automation and ensures the process reliability essential to precision parts manufacturing segments such as aerospace and machinery parts as well as automotive mold making.

At EMO Hannover 2017, the Mikron MILL P 500 U will make its debut as part of an interactive process flow demonstrating the production of automotive lighting modules. The solution will be enhanced by System 3R Automation, including a six-axis FANUC robot.

After the official launch at GF Machining Solutions’ International Solution Days, the AgieCharmilles CUT P 350 wire-cutting EDM solution will again be in the spotlight at EMO Hannover 2017. Industries such as automotive and electronic components—faced with ever-shorter lead times—strive to increase their flexibility and production efficiency while executing their applications perfectly on the first attempt. The new AgieCharmilles CUT P series represents a huge leap in terms of productivity with smarter machining however difficult the machining conditions. A significant step toward the increased connectivity of Industry 4.0, this range of solutions guarantees longer tooling life and reduces the need for manual operator interventions. Users now experience 20 percent greater machining speed, accuracy down to 2 µm and benefit from having access to more than 600 dedicated technologies.

Interactive journey brings processes to life

A series of interactive flows across GF Machining Solutions’ EMO 2017 booth will breathe life into the challenges of tool-making processes and their resolution in key industrial segments by taking visitors on an innovative journey.

The flow around ICT applications will demonstrate simple, perfect, precise graphite machining. Visitors will experience how the Mikron MILL S 400 U five-axis high-speed Milling solution delivers stable precision over long machining periods and reduces—when not eliminating—manual finishing operations.

In the flow dedicated to process solutions for packaging, visitors will discover how to significantly improve their tooling and produce perfect plastic parts. In the spotlight will be the reduced lead time and quality output increases enabled by the AgieCharmilles AM S 290 Tooling Additive Manufacturing solution; the new intelligence delivered by the AgieCharmilles CUT P 350; the stable precision ensured by the Mikron MILL S 400 U; and the efficient, repeatable texturing capabilities of the AgieCharmilles LASER P 1000.

EMO visitors exploring the flow dedicated to the segment of electronic components will discover complete solutions for achieving uncompromised accuracy over time—a unique process challenge in this fast-moving industrial segment. Coming together to address these challenges will be the AgieCharmilles CUT 2000 X wire-cutting EDM machine with its uncompromising accuracy and unique novelties including 100 percent Automation, automatic onboard quality control and increased cutting speed; the three-axis Mikron MILL P 900 high-performance Milling solution combining robustness and precision and one-touch strategies from roughing to finishing; and the AgieCharmilles FORM E / S / P series of die-sinking EDM machines as the foundation for greater autonomy, higher efficiency, improved process reliability, accelerated performance and perfect machining results.

In the flow demonstrating machining solutions for medical applications, visitors will experience solutions to help them set up within seconds and achieve flexibility and reproducibility in variable batch volume production. Enabling these gains will be the Mikron MILL E 500 U five-axis Milling solution with dynamic machining capabilities and integrated Automation; the AgieCharmilles CUT P 350’s delivery of perfect quality whatever the machining conditions; and the AgieCharmilles LASER P 400 U all-in-one five-axis Laser texturing solution guaranteeing highly repeatable results.

A further flow will demonstrate how manufacturers can achieve extraordinary surface finishes with precision in the production of automotive lighting modules, thanks to the new Mikron MILL P 500 U with its uncompromising process reliability and agile productivity as well as the impeccable quality delivered by the intelligence embedded in the AgieCharmilles CUT P 350.

In addition, visitors will get a close look at a wide range of other success-triggering GF Machining Solutions’ products, including:

- the Microlution ML-5, a compact, ultrafast, ultraprecise five-axis Laser micromachining platform that pushes micromachining beyond computer numerical control (CNC) machining technology to make micron-scale machining economically and technically feasible.

The extremely compact System 3R WP1 is Automation made simple: It easily changes pallets for milling, wire-cutting EDM and grinding machines to increase manufacturers’ capacity and productivity—no costly machine modifications required—to guarantee superb return on investment. The System 3R WPT1+ compact part changing robot is modularly adapted to meet a broad range of user needs, from milling, wire-cutting and die-sinking EDM and grinding to mixed milling and EDM technologies.
