Foundation of STEP TECH AG

Founded in a garage, STEP TECH (Spindle Tools Engineering Periphery Technology) was created to develop the world's best high-performance milling spindle.

Development of the STEP TECH HVC 140

STEP TECH develops and manufactures its first 42,000 rpm high-speed motor spindle for Mikron AG. With several thousand units manufactured, this successful product is still part of today's portfolio. STEP TECH became Step-Tec.

First spindle delivered to Boeing

Boeing utilizes Step-Tec’s high-speed spindles for manufacturing integral aluminum parts with high buy-to-fly (BTF) ratios.

First-generation Spindle Diagnostic Module

By collecting and storing critical data such as operating time or bearing temperature, Step-Tec’s Spindle Diagnostic Module enhances CNC machine performance.

Second-generation Spindle Diagnostic Module

Step-Tec further digitalizes machine tools by introducing a Profibus interface for CNC systems, able to collect extensive diagnostic data.

HPC 190 platform concept

The HPC 190 served to replace multiple individual spindle designs, unifying them into a single, versatile platform. This innovative concept offers a portfolio of platforms to be further customized.

Step-Tec HVC 140 – new generation

Featuring the innovative Opticool concept, this new-generation spindle significantly reduces thermal impact on machine tool components, boosting precision and performance.

Patented electromagnetic shaft lock

Our patented electromagnetic shaft lock removed the necessity for a hydraulic unit as a peripheral device, greatly simplifying spindle integration and reducing its costs.

Short HSK-T63 Spindle

This engineering masterpiece integrated a shaft lock into a super compact spindle design, supporting multi-process operations on machine tools with swiveling head kinematics.

Third-generation Spindle Diagnostic Module

Exhibiting a Profinet interface to the CNC as well as a digital interface for 3-axis vibration sensing and tool position monitoring, this module allows for in-process optimization and predictive maintenance.
