GF Machining Solutions offers new recycling service for older EDM machines

An EDM machine contains on average 400 kg of copper, 170 kg of carbon steel, 1ʼ400 kg of cast iron, 1ʼ100 kg of low-grade steel, 430 kg of stainless steel, 50 kg of polyurethane, 200 kg of electronics parts and 130 kg of motor parts. These parts and materials are obtained from scarce resources and their industrial processing contributes to climate change. However, around 90% of the machine can be recycled.

With this in mind, GF Machining Solutions has created a recycling service for EDM machines that are 20 years or older. This service aims to help customers whose machines have reached the end of their life cycle dispose of their machines in a safe and efficient way. The machine to be recycled will be picked up from the customer's site, inspected and disassembled. A limited number of components can be refurbished, other materials are directed to recycling, and the few that cannot be recovered are safely dismissed.

This machine recycling project will cover the countries Italy, Switzerland and Austria in a first step, taking advantage of the existing capabilities of GF Machining Solutions in this region. Customers can submit the information about their machines via the website to find out if they are suitable. 

The benefits for customers are clear: the process is safe, hassle-free and environmentally sound. GF Machining Solutions guarantees the respect for safety rules and material treatment regulations throughout the entire process. Customers do not have to worry about questions related to the end of life of the machines, like norms, certifications, logistics and operations.

Customers will receive a certificate for every machine taken back, based on the avoided waste, preserved resources and saved CO₂ emission.
